Description: The Exec Director, Laboratory Services is responsible for leading and directing the day-to-day management and operation of the Laboratory Departments. The Exec Director, Laboratory is also accountable for ensuring hospital and regulatory standards compliance, development and enforcement of service line policies and procedures, cooperation and participation in the performance improvement initiatives. The position leads activities including the establishment of a clean and safe environment, maintains knowledge of applicable laws and standards of responsible services and enforces compliance. Typical Duties:

  1. Oversees inpatient clinical functions of the lab and coordinates coverage for outpatient operations including point of care, remote laboratory, community health lab services as appropriate.
  2. Ensures that strategies and processes exist to maximize financial resource management, including development and achievement of financial performance objectives including productivity performance.
  3. Prepares and monitors annual budget to ensure appropriate performance against objectives; anticipates opportunities for new services and programs and reduction of expenses in the organization.
  4. Provides regular meetings and other forms of communication with reporting personnel and other affected staff members including daily huddles and/or internal customer rounding to assure awareness of operational and organization-wide issues.
  5. Provides the Vice President with written, ongoing progress reports for key initiatives and daily operations. Participates in development of vision and strategy for lab services with the Vice President.
  6. Develops a positive rapport with staff evidenced by Employee Engagement, colleagues, physicians, and leadership.
  7. Provides the organization with appropriate tactics for successful customer service, regulatory, and accrediting surveys within responsible services.
  8. Assists and acts on behalf of and with the Medical Director in dealing with technical issues, CAP and quality, and providing leadership in the development of staff cohesiveness.
  9. Directly responsible for fiscal planning, budget and audits, personnel management, space planning and management.
  10. Develop functional objectives, implements, plans and monitors progress of set goals, and revises plans as necessary, relative to areas of responsibility.
  11. Directs and supports selection of personnel in assigned areas; conducts ongoing assessments and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development of staff to include a workforce “staff” plan for areas of responsibilities.
  12. Develops and implements monitoring processes to ensure that department’s performance is consistent with the organization’s metrics-based management performance system.
  13. Performs other job related duties as assigned.




    Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology Lab from an accredited college or university required. AND
  • Master Degree in Health/Business Management Administration from an accredited University.
  • 5 plus years of management experience in related field.
  • Required Licensure/Certification:

  • Registered as a Medical Technologists (MT).
  • Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 5 plus years of experience in multiple discipline service line.
