Description

Description: The Police Communications Officer is responsible for the operation of all equipment in the Police Communications office, to include CCTV, alarm systems, phones, and radio equipment. This position is also responsible for inputs into computer files (e.g., TCIC, NCIC, TLETS, and CAD), ensuring the information is passed on to the dispatched personnel, and or requesting personnel and all files are properly recorded and maintained. Typical Duties:

  1. Performs all other duties and activities appropriate with the knowledge and skills of the position, to include general office and clerical duties.
  2. Maintains qualification and competency on all communication equipment and systems authorized and used by the department.
  3. Ensures only authorized persons gain access to sensitive areas through the use of access control systems. Monitors, maintains, and operates all equipment utilized in the Communications Control Center. Responds appropriately to calls for service and dispatch personnel as needed.
  4. Documents and maintains records of all calls for service and assures that the data entry is completed.
  5. Ensures only authorized personnel access the Communications Control Center area.
  6. Maintains and operates TCTC, NCIC, TLETS, and other programs appropriately.
  7. Collects appropriate information for criminal/informational bulletins.
  8. Ensures radio utilization and radio traffic are conducted in accordance with Federal Communications Commission guidelines.
  9. Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

    Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours of college.
  • 1 plus year experience in law enforcement telecommunications.
  • 1 plus year experience with operation of office equipment, CCTV, alarm, access, and communications systems.
  • 1 plus year experience in the application of control and annunciation devices.
  • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Texas Basic Telecommunications Certification may be obtained within one (1) year of hire date.
  • TCIC/NCIC Full Access Certification may be obtained within one (1) year of hire date.
