Description: This position is primarily responsible for the overall effectiveness of the patient meal service program which plans, directs, coordinates and supervises tray line meal services. Responsible for patient food service and patient satisfaction. Directs all patient services employees in guest relations awareness and follows local, state, and other regulatory rules, regulations, and laws. Utilizes diet office computer software system. Additionally, as a member of the Nutritional Services management team, this position will ensure patient satisfaction and good public relations through the safe and efficient use of resources. Typical Duties:
Selects, trains, schedules, supervises, counsels and evaluates employees assigned to all patient meal services at the District.
Manages and organizes patient meal services’ work processes and delivery service.
Serves as a resource person to nursing management staff and other healthcare professionals, including students and interns, addressing any patient complaints, concerns, rounding issues, etc.
Reviews patient menus for adequacy, variety and patient acceptance. Makes menu changes to improve quality and patient satisfaction.
Participates on interdisciplinary committees to provide nutrition expertise, problem solve, review and revise clinical practice guidelines and practice protocols.
Implements or recommends appropriate changes to improve and promote the effectiveness, productivity and quality of nutritional services.
Develops, implements, monitors and revises annual goals, standards of care, quality management initiatives and protocols for clinical nutrition and patient meal services.
Stays abreast of new developments, advancements, and trends in clinical nutrition and food service management by attending seminars and workshops, participating in professional organizations, reviewing literature and integrates this knowledge as appropriate.
Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations and policies that impact Nutritional Services and develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws and program requirements of accreditation agencies.
Serves as a preceptor to dietetic students.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from an accredited university.
2 years of food service experience in a hospital/healthcare setting.
1 plus year experience in managing food service employees and resources.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Food Service Management or related field from an accredited university.
2 plus years of experience in managing patient food service employees and resources.
Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Diet Technician (DTR) or Certified Dietary Manager (CDM)
