Description: The Sonographer/Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasound procedures to patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment. The Sonographer/Ultrasound Technologist specializes in diagnostic sonography procedures and possesses a technical expertise. Typical Duties:

  1. Performs procedures as ordered to obtain sonographic images according to department protocols.
  2. Screens and interviews each patient using designated clinical assessment forms to record information.
  3. Performs ultrasound procedures to include properly positioning and/or immobilizing patients on exam table, uses appropriate probes and equipment for the exam, observes patient during scans and monitors and reviews video display making the appropriate adjustments to improve picture quality and/or audibility.
  4. Reviews, manipulates, and evaluates images to determine satisfactory diagnostic picture quality and audible sounds. Organizes and accurately performs the individual steps in the sonographic procedures in the proper sequence.
  5. Understands and uses PACS, EMR, and other software related to job responsibilities.
  6. Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacture guidelines or department protocols; recognizes and takes action for abnormal results. Reports equipment problems and/or failures to Bio-Med and Manager.
  7. Prepares exam room and equipment by following proper cleaning and disinfecting guidelines. Ensures a safe and clean environment with all the necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in the exam room.
  8. Maintains yearly competency training, mandatory District education, professional certification, State licensure, and education requirements throughout employment.
  9. Performs other related job duties as assigned.



    Required Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Sonography or a related field.
  • OR

  • Certification from an American Medical Association (AMA) school OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) approved educational programs.
  • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Registration with OR eligibility to take the boards and certified American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry Radiology Technology (ARRT) in Ultrasound in first 12 months of hire .
  • Must be certified by ARDMS (Ultrasound) upon hire OR achieve certification from ARDMS within 12 months of the hire date.
  • Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification upon hire and maintain a current certification throughout employment.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 1 plus years sonogram work experience is preferred.
